Zdravko Ježić


Zdravko "Pusko" Ježić (August 17, 1931 – June 19, 2005) was a Croatian chemist and water polo player who competed for Yugoslavia in the 1952 Summer Olympics, in the 1956 Summer Olympics, and in the 1960 Summer Olympics.
Ježić was born in Niš. In 1958 he received a degree in chemical technology at the Faculty of Technology in Zagreb, where he also started working in 1960 at the Organic Chemical Industry.〔 He received his PhD in 1962 in organic chemical technology, and then pursued postdoctoral study at the University of Michigan. From 1966 until his retirement in 1992 he worked at Dow Chemical Company in the United States and was engaged in the development and production of polymeric materials.〔 He authored numerous scientific and technical papers and 13 patents.
Ježić was a prominent water polo player and a member of Mladost Zagreb. He was a member of the Yugoslav team which won the silver medal in the 1952 tournament. He played all nine matches. Four years later he again won the silver medal with the Yugoslav team in the 1956 tournament. He played all seven matches. In 1960 he was a member of the Yugoslav team which finished fourth in the Olympic competition. He played all seven matches and scored four goals.
As a U.S. citizen, Ježić appeared in an Olympic-themed commercial for Dow Chemical during the 1988 Olympics.
Ježić died in New York City in 2005.
In 2010, Ježić's name was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 publisher = International Swimming Hall of Fame )
